Liang Liu and the National Science Foundation

Liang Liu, an assistant professor of statistics in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, received $172,888 from the National Science Foundation to develop a systematic way to more accurately estimate gene duplication and loss. Accurately estimating the timing and mode of gene duplications along the evolutionary history of species can provide valuable information about the underlying mechanisms by which genes with novel functions arise.
