Media Advisory: Body of missing student identified

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia Police Department announces that a body was found on the afternoon of Sunday, March 25, by persons hiking in the wooded area off of South Milledge Avenue between the Botanical Garden and the Women’s Sports Complex. The body has been determined to be that of the missing student, Yongsheng Li. At this time there are no facts that would lead the Police Department to feel that foul play was involved. The body has been taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for an autopsy which has been scheduled for Tuesday, March 27. The results of this autopsy will determine the next course of action in this investigation.

The Athens office of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Forensic Science Unit assisted the University Police in processing the scene. The University Police investigators will continue in their efforts to determine what occurred.

We ask that the couple who discovered the body, and who had left the area before the police arrived, please contact the University Police at 706/542-2200. We also ask that any person who had contact with Li, or with any person matching the description of. Li (Asian male, black hair, approximately 5’7″ in height, weighing approximately 145 pounds, last seen wearing black rimmed glasses, a white T-shirt, green jeans and gray sneakers) over the past 14 days to please contact the University Police at 706/542-2200.

The University Police also would like to thank the members of the community that assisted by putting out information and flyers to aid in locating Li.
