Media Advisory: UGA will not test UGAAlert Feb. 4

Athens, Ga. – Officials at the University of Georgia will not include a test of UGAAlert, the university’s mass notification system, on Feb. 4 during a campus-wide tornado drill.

The decision to eliminate the test comes due to the recent accidental activation of UGAAlert on Jan. 16.

Although the UGAAlert system will not be activated during the drill, officials encourage students, faculty and staff to verify and update their information at www.ugaalert.uga.edu to ensure that all emergency contact information reflected in the system is current and accurate.

Campus outdoor tornado sirens and building severe weather radios will be activated per normal drill procedures.

The tornado drill is part of a statewide program included in Severe Weather Awareness Week in Georgia, Feb. 2 – 6.
