New members pledge to improve communication

Shannon Scott, an assistant editor in the Institute of Continuing Legal Education in Georgia, is the new president of Staff Council. She was elected at the council’s June meeting and assumes office July 1.

Stuart Ivy, an information technology manager in the College of Veterinary Medicine, was elected vice president. The new recording secretary is Lanora Pierce, a preparator in the Georgia Museum of Art. Brenda Keen, business manager of the Georgia Review, was elected coordinator.

Scott, who represents the School of Law on Staff Council, served as vice president the past year. She has worked at the university since 2000.

Scott said one of her major goals is promoting better communication between Staff Council and Staff Representative Groups in schools and colleges. As Staff Council president, she is also a member of University Council.

She will be responsible for implementing a proposal that would give Staff Council eight additional seats on the University Council. The University Council in April approved on first reading several by-law amendments to add the Staff Council seats. The proposal will become effective if approved on second reading at the University Council meeting in September.
