Northwestern’s Faculty Senate suggests syllabi include mental health note

A new resolution passed in Northwestern University’s Faculty Senate recommends professors include information on available mental health services in their syllabi, according to a recent article from Inside Higher Ed.

The resolution was passed in response to a recommendation from the university’s student government, which cites student mental health as a major concern. The resolution suggests professors add a note to their syllabi saying that a student struggling with mental or physical health issues should feel comfortable speaking with them about it and that the professors will do their best to accommodate those needs.
