UGA President Michael F. Adams has been selected as the recipient of the 2013 Chief Executive Leadership Award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education District III.

The award, one of CASE III’s most prestigious honors, recognizes annually an outstanding president, chancellor, headmaster or system head of a CASE III member institution. Adams will receive the award at the CASE III conference, which will be held Feb. 17-21 in Atlanta.

Under Adams’ leadership, student quality has risen steadily, and UGA has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the nation’s top 20 public research universities for eight out of the past 10 years. The university began a medical partnership with Georgia Health Sciences University in 2010 and established an engineering college in July.

“I am humbled by this recognition,” said Adams. “Institutional advancement is critical to the success of today’s colleges and universities. CASE has provided strong leadership and professional development in this arena for many years. Although this accolade has my name attached to it, it recognizes the accomplishments of many at the University of Georgia who do good work here every day. I am proud to accept this honor on behalf of the university.”

The award criteria includes demonstrating the ability to create a vision and inspire others; establishing a positive image for the institution while leading it to higher levels of success; increasing the institution’s stature in the community; encouraging innovation and risk-taking among employees; and actively supporting all aspects of institutional advancement.

CASE District III is the Council for Advancement and Support of Education’s second-largest district. With more than 3,500 members across the Southeast U.S. region, it serves advancement professionals at educational institutions in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

Headquartered in Washington, D.C., with offices in London, Singapore and Mexico City, CASE is the professional organization for advancement professionals who work in alumni relations, communications, fundraising, marketing and other areas.

CASE is one of the largest nonprofit education associations in terms of institutional membership. Its membership includes more than 3,400 colleges, universities, independent elementary and secondary schools, and educational associates in 74 countries around the world.

It serves nearly 65,000 advancement professionals.
