Public Service award nominations

The Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach is now accepting nominations for the 2011 Walter Barnard Hill Award for Distinguished Achievement in Public Service and Outreach at UGA; the Walter Barnard Hill Fellow Award for Distinguished Achievement in Public Service and Outreach at UGA; and the Public Service and Outreach Staff Award for Excellence. Nominations are due Oct. 1.

The Hill Award honors outstanding public service and outreach work by UGA faculty. A maximum of five Hill Award recipients will each receive a medallion and a framed certificate.

The Hill Fellow Award recognizes sustained, distinguished and superb achievement in public service and outreach at UGA, and contributions to improving the quality of life in Georgia or elsewhere. Designation as a Hill Fellow is comparable to a distinguished professorship, and only previous Hill Award winners are eligible for appointment as a Hill Fellow. In addition to other tokens of appreciation, the awardee will receive a supplementary fund for use in the advancement of his or her program of work.

The Staff Award for Excellence is the most prestigious award for staff members and recognizes individuals who have demonstrated a strong work ethic, commitment to service and exceptional job performance. Up to three staff award recipients will each receive an engraved memento and a framed certificate.

The nomination submission materials, completed according to the nomination guidelines found at http://outreach.uga.edu/resources/policies, should be submitted to: Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach, Attention: Steve Dempsey, Associate Vice President, Treanor House, 1234 S. Lumpkin St. Athens, GA 30602.

The awards will be presented at the Public Service and Outreach annual meeting and awards luncheon on April 12 in the Grand Hall of the Tate Student Center.
