Regents, University Professorships

Nominations are requested for two important academic honors: the Regents and University Professorships. Regents Professorships are bestowed by the University System of Georgia Board of Regents on distinguished faculty whose scholarship or creative activity is recognized both nationally and internationally as innovative and pace-setting.

The title of University Professor is bestowed on UGA faculty who have had a significant impact on the university in addition to fulfilling their normal academic responsibilities. The impact may be in the areas of policy development, teaching, curricular change, innovative programs or academic leadership.

Candidates for both professorships must hold the rank of professor. Candidates for University Professor must have served on the UGA faculty for 10 years. Awardees for each professorship will receive a permanent salary increase of $10,000, in addition to any merit raise, in the year of appointment. They also will receive a yearly academic support account of $5,000 as long as the position is held.

Nominations should be submitted to the dean of the nominee’s school or college. The deans in turn submit nominations to the Special Professorship Selection Committee appointed by the provost.

The deadline for electronic submission of nominations to this committee is Nov. 4. Anyone wishing to submit a nomination should contact the appropriate dean’s office for school/college submission deadlines and procedures.
