Above, freshman health promotion major Brenda Ascencio of Athens and her boyfriend Kenny Villafuerte, an Athens Technical College student, retrieved a few belongings from her room in Russell Hall on March 13 as the campus prepares for suspension of instruction after the university, along with all University System of Georgia institutions, temporarily suspended instruction for two weeks due to coronavirus COVID-19.

Students were away from campus on spring break the week of March 9 but as spring break concluded, the university strongly encouraged students to stay home or return home rather than return to campus and were advised to remain away from campus until March 29.

Residence halls are being opened on a limited basis for those who need temporary access to retrieve books or a small amount of belongings during the additional following times:

  • Saturday, March 14: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, March 15: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Monday, March 16: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday, March 17: 8 a.m. to noon.
