Resources for dealing with identity theft

The InfoSec department within UGA’s Enterprise Information Technology Services maintains this Web site that provides links and addresses for use in the case of potential identity theft. It should prove helpful for any members of the university community who are affected by the security breach at ChoicePoint Inc.

Atlanta-based ChoicePoint, a commercial source of personal information on Americans (with more than 10 billion records on individuals and businesses, including details about their homes, cars, relatives and criminal records) admitted earlier this month that it had given away personal information to “unauthorized third parties.” Georgians were among those whose records were released; the company will be notifying those affected.

Those affected should immediately check personal credit reports for suspicious activity, with subsequent checks several times in the coming year.
