UGA Presents will welcome internationally celebrated Scottish folk group Breabach back to Athens for a performance on April 2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hodgson Concert Hall. Known for their vibrant fusion of traditional Highland and Island Gaelic music with contemporary influences, Breabach has spent two decades redefining the sound of modern Scottish folk.
Breabach’s return to Athens promises an evening of energetic rhythms and powerful musicianship that celebrates both the heritage and evolving future of Scottish music. This concert is supported by Herb West and Myrna Adams West, M. Jean Lauth, Ian Russell Hardin and Carol Alice McKay, Jim and Carol Warnes, and Nancy McDuff and David Harvey.
Breabach first gained international attention after winning the Danny Kyle Open Stage Award at Glasgow’s Celtic Connections festival. Twenty years later, the band remains among Scotland’s most imaginative and respected contemporary folk acts.
The group features Megan Henderson (fiddle, vocals, step dance), James Lindsay (double bass, vocals), Calum MacCrimmon (bagpipes, whistle, bouzouki, vocals), Conal McDonagh (bagpipes, whistle, vocals) and Ewan Robertson (guitar, vocals, cajon). Their performances blend virtuosic instrumental work, powerful vocals and traditional step dancing into a dynamic and deeply rooted musical experience.
Join members of Breabach for an informal workshop April 2 from 1:15-2:15 p.m. in Ramsey Concert Hall. They will discuss their music, instruments and Scottish culture. This is free and open to the public, and tickets are not required. Additionally, the audience can enjoy a free pre-performance talk by a member of the band in Ramsey Concert Hall from 6:45-7:15 p.m.
