University of Georgia President Jere W. Morehead has appointed a search committee to conduct a national search for candidates to serve as the institution’s next senior vice president for academic affairs and provost.

The committee is composed of faculty, staff, administrators, students and alumni, and will be co-chaired by Dean Matt Auer of the School of Public and International Affairs and Dean Lisa Nolan of the College of Veterinary Medicine.

“As the University of Georgia’s chief academic officer, the senior vice president for academic affairs and provost plays an indispensable role in elevating the institution and advancing our community’s ambitious goals,” Morehead said. “I want to thank Dean Auer and Dean Nolan for their service in leading this important national search process and for the commitment of each of the committee members.”

Ron Walcott, vice provost for graduate education and dean of the Graduate School, is currently serving as the University of Georgia’s interim provost.

As the chief academic officer of the university, the senior vice president for academic affairs and provost oversees instruction, research, public service and outreach, and information technology. The vice presidents of these four areas report to the provost, as do the deans of UGA’s 20 schools and colleges. In addition, several academic units report to the provost, leading areas such as academic fiscal affairs, academic planning, faculty affairs, global engagement and the libraries, among others.
