While Athens blooms with the sights and sounds of July, the University of Georgia’s campus is a lot quieter than usual—even for summertime. Although campus units have had to modify many of their programs, the university still offers a mix of virtual and physical summer activities for community members of all ages.
Here are a few opportunities you and your family can take advantage of this summer:
Attend a workshop
The Georgia Museum of Art is hosting several virtual experiences and workshops this summer. Join instructors from Five Points Yoga for hourlong virtual yoga classes every other Thursday beginning July 16. Attend Virtual Family Day on July 18 to experience some of the first works of art donated to the museum. Or start your morning with a guided meditation in mindfulness every other Friday beginning July 10. Many of these offerings will continue through September.

Join a book club
UGA Alumni Association’s first Between the Pages virtual book club launches July 16 with a discussion of “Hello, Summer,” the newest release from author and UGA alumna Mary Kay Andrews (Kathy Hogan Trocheck). The session will be moderated by fellow alumna Monica Kaufman Pearson, Atlanta’s first female and first African American news anchor.

Set sail with Georgia 4-H
Georgia 4-H has transformed its traditional residential camps into a series of virtual excursions for students of all ages. Covering topics such as STEM, leadership and healthy living, the program offers livestreaming, recorded videos, guided at-home activities and more to keep your child engaged through August.

Tour campus
Spanning 760 acres, UGA’s Athens campus has much to offer. A self-guided tour* will take you on an excursion from the iconic Arch to Sanford Stadium. For a more tailored campus experience, UGA hosts free virtual visits every Wednesday and Friday, or you can watch a prerecorded session.

Explore the gardens
Through the end of July, families can register for educational tours of the beautiful State Botanical Garden. The newly launched Garden Earth Explorers Summer Expeditions offers six themed tours for parents and children, including Sensory Garden, Stream Ecology, Treasure Hunt and more. Each tour can accommodate up to nine participants.
Cost: $50 for three participants; $10 for each additional participant
