Staff Council elects new officers

New officers were elected at the Feb. 7 Staff Council meeting.

Current president Shannon Scott, who is an assistant editor at the Institute of Continuing Education, ran unopposed and was re-elected, and Stuart Ivy, an information technology manager in the College of Veterinary Medicine, was elected vice president. Lakeiya Keese, senior financial accountant in the contracts and grants department, was elected coordinator, and Lanora Pierce, a preparator in the Georgia Museum of Art was elected recording secretary.

Filling posts on the benefits committee are: Becky Wortham, a human resources specialist for the UGA libraries, for fiscal years 2008–2010; Sonja Pruitt, an administrative associate at the Carl Vinson Institute of Government, for 2008–2009; and Brenda Keen, business manager for The Georgia Review, for 2008. Lori Tiller, facilities manager for the Office of Performing Arts, will head the facilities committee (for 2008–2010); Larry Scott, a network administrator assistant in population health, heads the ­faculty/staff parking appeals committee No. 1 (for 2008–2009—Beverly Chalk, administrative assistant in the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center, holds the same position for 2007–2008 and is in the middle of her term); Ursula Butler, business manager for the drama and theatre department, heads the strategic planning committee (for 2008–2010); Cara Simmons, student affairs professional in Campus Life, heads the student affairs committee (for 2008); and  Jacquie Houston, a library associate in general operations, heads the university libraries committee (for 2008-2009).

Shannon Scott, Larry Scott, Wortham, Pruitt, Tiller, Chalk, Butler, Simmons and Houston also will serve as staff representatives on the University Council.
“I am very pleased that we have a stronger voice on a University Council,” said Shannon Scott. “I have every confidence we will serve UGA well.”
