Student papers shrink print schedule

Student newspapers at Duke University, the University of Illinois, the University of Missouri and San Diego State University are cutting back on the number of print editions published each week, according to a report by the Poynter Institute.

Some of the papers, like Duke’s The Chronicle and Illinois’ Daily Inquirer, are cutting back from five days to four. Missouri’s The Maneater and San Diego State’s The Daily Aztec are cutting their weekly schedules in half. The cutbacks, which follow a national trend for student newspapers, will allow the papers to focus on Web and mobile editions, according to the Poynter report.
