Sustainability tours

n conjunction with the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, the Office of Sustainability and the Go Green Alliance will host campus sustainability walking tours of UGA’s north, south and east campus precincts April 21 at 3 p.m. Participants should meet at the lawn of the Tate Student Center where they will be bused to the start of tour locations.

The interactive student-led tours will highlight campus sustainability initiatives in the areas of academics, research, student engagement and operations, with a focus on green building and sustainable site design. Proper footwear is encouraged.

The tours will conclude at 4:30 p.m. with a waste-free reception at the Tate Student Center to include live music and light, local fare.

A screening and discussion of the documentary Life will be held at 6 p.m. in Room 171 of the Miller Learning Center.

Also, a brief ceremony and plaque unveiling commemorating the Tate Student Center’s LEED certification will be held at 4:30 p.m. April 22. The certification signifies green building standards in sustainable site design, energy and water conservation, material and resource use, waste reduction, and healthy indoor environments.
