Taylor joins UGA Alumni Association staff

Athens, Ga. – Robert (Bob) Taylor has been named associate executive director of communications for the University of Georgia Alumni Association. Taylor joins the Association after having served nine years in UGA’s Office of Public Affairs as an open records manager.

Executive Director Deborah Dietzler said, “Bob brings a wealth of public relations experience to the table. He will be very important in formulizing our future strategic plans.”

The Columbus native received his ABJ from UGA’s Grady College of Journalism in 1983. He was an anchor-reporter at the South Carolina Radio Network in Columbia, 1988-1991 and news director 1991-1993. He was press secretary, spokesman and speechwriter for the late U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond during the South Carolina Republican’s last Senate campaign race in 1996.

Taylor has been married 18 years to the former Nancy Atkins, a teacher’s aide at Malcom Bridge Elementary School in Oconee County. They have one son, Seth, 13, who is a 7th grader at Malcom Bridge Middle School. The Taylors are members of Athens First United Methodist Church. Taylor is an associate board member and Ambassador for the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce.
