The Performing Arts Center will open its 2011-2012 season with a fast-paced performance of the comedy The Complete World of Sports (abridged) by the Reduced Shakespeare Company on Sept. 20 at 8 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre.

For The Complete World of Sports (abridged), the Reduced Shakespeare Company sets it comic sites on the lunacy of sports. The comedy troupe will condense “every sport played on every continent in the entire history of the world” in less than two hours.
“If you like sports, you’ll like the show,” said Austin Tichenor, a writer, performer and managing partner of the company.
“And if you couldn’t care less about sports, you’ll love this show,” said Matt Rippy, performer, director and webmaster for the troupe.
The show pokes fun at baseball, football, the NCAA basketball tournament, rugby, Pac-Man, synchronized swimming, quidditch, golf, NASCAR, hurling, curling and extreme curling.
The sports chronicled include those from the cavemen, ancient Greek, Romans, Elizabethans and even looks at modern sports media. The performance aims to capture all the emotion, drama and scandal of sports.
The company is known for taking long, serious subjects and reducing them to short, sharp comedies.
Since its pass-the-hat origins in 1981, the Reduced Shakespeare Company has created seven world-renowned stage shows (including The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged), The Complete History of America (abridged) and The Bible: The Complete Word of God (abridged)), two television specials, several failed TV pilots and numerous radio programs.
