UGA Department of Dance presents ‘MERGENCE’

The University of Georgia Department of Dance presents MERGENCE, the 2022 UGA Dance Company faculty and guest artist concert, on April 7-9 at 8 p.m. and April 10 at 2:30 p.m. in the New Dance Theatre, located in the Dance Building, which is nestled between Soule and Green Streets (off Sanford Drive) on UGA’s south campus in Athens.

MERGENCE offers its audience an array of dance styles and choreographic ideas. With 11 different works, this energetic live performance features classical ballet, contemporary and jazz dance, as well as live music. The diversity of the concert embraces a range of artistic voices celebrating the emerging student artist as a sophisticated performer who has range and depth.

Faculty and guest choreography, and music will be performed by UGA dance department students, staff, dance faculty and guests. This year’s guest choreography is by Virginia Carver, UGA Department of Dance professor emerita, and Seyong Kim, international professional ballet artist and 2021-22 Franklin Visiting Scholar and Willson Center for Humanities and Arts Distinguished Artist.

Tickets are $16 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. Student groups of eight or more may receive a discounted rate of $5. Tickets can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center box office, by calling 706-542-4400 or online at www.pac.uga.edu. Tickets can also be purchased at the Tate Student Center and will be available at the door one hour before each performance. Advance purchase is highly recommended. Free parking is available in lots adjacent to the UGA Department of Dance after 5 p.m. or at the South Campus Parking Deck next to the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education & Hotel for a fee.
