UGA diver finishes strong at World Cup, secures spot for U.S. in 2008 Olympics

UGA diver Chris Colwill secured a spot for the U.S. in the 2008 Olympics at the FINA Diving World Cup.

By placing in the top 18, Colwill gained the eighth of a possible 12 Olympic berths for the Americans. The top 18 divers earn berths for their federations, not the divers themselves. Colwill secured the spot when he placed 15th in preliminaries on the men’s three-meter springboard. Colwill then finished fifth in the semifinals and eighth in the finals.

The U.S. Olympic Trials for diving will be held June 18-22 in Indianapolis, with a team selection camp to follow July 2-6 in Knoxville, Tenn.
