UGA spring commencement ceremonies changed to May 13

Athens, Ga. – The University of Georgia spring 2011 commencement ceremonies have been changed to Friday, May 13. The graduate ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in Stegeman Coliseum with doors opening at 8 a.m. The undergraduate ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. in Sanford Stadium with gates opening at 5 p.m.

The undergraduate commencement ceremony will be held in the stadium rain or shine.Only in case of severe weather will the undergraduate ceremony be rescheduled for Saturday, May 14 at 10 a.m.Severe weather is defined as rain accompanied by high winds, thunder and lightning.

If it is raining Friday morning, but not declared severe weather, the degree candidates will not process onto the field, but will report directly to their assigned seats on the field.Each student will be provided with a poncho to wear.

The decision on whether to hold the undergraduate ceremony in Sanford Stadium or move to the Severe Weather Plan will be made by 10 a.m. Friday.The information will be placed on the UGA home page by 10:30 a.m. and provided to major local radio stations.

For guests who do not wish to attend if it is raining, the ceremony will be televised on University and Charter cable channel 15 and streamed on the Internet.Also, visitors to campus may view the ceremony in the Tate Student Center Theater.
