UGA to host entertainment and business summit for students

Athens, Ga. – The Professional Entertainment and Sports Association in the University of Georgia Terry College of Business will host the PESA Summit 2012 on March 31 at Sanford Hall from 10:30 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. The student conference will include panels, workshops, seminars and professional networking opportunities related to the industries of television, film, fashion, music and sports.

Speakers and panelists will include industry professionals from BET, Atlantic Records, Turner, Cox Communications, Grand Hustle, CNN, Team Clermont, Warner Brothers and SEA Apparel.

Event topics will include “Entrepreneurship and Innovation,” “The Future of Network Television,” “Evolution of Entertainment and Sports Marketing” and “Careers in Music.” Following a luncheon, the summit will feature “Networking Power Hour Fueled by Red Bull.” In addition to the summit, PESA’s philanthropic sister organization, PESA Cares, will sponsor the attendance of top-performing high school seniors from the Athens-Clarke County area.

“The objective of PESA Cares is to provide young adults exposure to a professional environment outside their everyday lives,” said Kamilah H. Gray, the founder and president of PESA, who noted that Athens-Clarke County is home to the highest poverty rate in the U.S. for a county with more than 100,000 people. “We hope to stimulate young adults to pursue career goals beyond what they may have imagined.”

The event is open to the public and free to PESA members. The cost for non-members is $10 for UGA students and $15 for non-UGA students. Business casual attire is encouraged.
