UGA to open at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 23

The University of Georgia will delay opening on Thursday, Jan. 23 until 10 a.m. The first in-person class for students will begin at 11:10 a.m.

All dining halls are scheduled to open at 8 a.m., and Campus Transit service will begin at 10 a.m.

The delayed start will provide campus operations teams with additional time to address isolated slick spots. Even with the delay, we realize that some members of our campus community may face unique challenges for travel depending upon their location. Employees are encouraged to contact their supervisors to discuss flexible arrangements in these circumstances; likewise, students should contact their instructors.

Faculty members are expected to ensure continuity of instruction by making up for the missed material in the two earlier class periods through alternative means. This may include online lectures, readings, assignments, or other instructional activities, which are clearly communicated to students.

Essential personnel—employees who have been identified by their department or unit as critical to the maintenance and operations of the University, particularly providing essential support to students—are expected to report on time unless conditions prevent safe travel. Essential personnel should contact their supervisors for additional information.

Faculty, staff and students at UGA’s extended campuses should follow local directions specific to their locations.
