Petition seeks withdrawal of planned honorary degree for former Bush aide

A petition signed by more than 1,000 people at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst asks that the chancellor halt plans to present an honorary degree to a former member of President George W. Bush’s cabinet, the Chronicle of Higher Education reported.

The university’s plan involved awarding former White House chief of staff Andrew Card an honorary degree June 26 at its spring commencement ceremonies. The administration did not comment on its planned course of action.
