In conjunction with its upcoming show, The Pillowman, University Theatre is holding a writing contest for dark fairy tales between 500 and 750 words in the spirit of the Brothers Grimm, Neil Gaiman and Stephen King. The deadline for submissions is Oct. 7.
The Pillowman centers around a writer police have taken into custody to interrogate about a series of child murders that bear an unsettling similarity to the gruesome contents of his short stories. The show runs Oct. 14-17 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 19 at 2:30 p.m. in the Cellar Theatre. The winner of the writing contest will be announced and the story will be read aloud opening night.
Stephen Corey, editor of The Georgia Review, will judge the entries. Stories may be e-mailed to Dina Canup at email@example.com or dropped off in the front office of the Fine Arts Building on the corner of Baldwin and Lumpkin streets.
