UGA Performing Arts Center presents The Chipper Experience Oct. 16 and 17

Athens, Ga. – The worlds of comedy and magic will come together when the University of Georgia Performing Arts Center presents The Chipper Experience – Where Comedy and Magic Collide Oct. 16 and 17 in Ramsey Concert Hall. Shows will start at 8 p.m. both evenings.

The Chipper Experience stars Chipper Lowell, who twice has been named Comedy Magician of the Year by the International Magicians Society. Equally skilled at bizarre feats of magic, razor-sharp adlibs and original stand-up comedy routines, Lowell has been praised by the Los Angeles Times as “feverish, frenetic and hilarious.”

As a boy, Lowell was born and raised in traveling circuses and large-scale arena shows with his show business parents. His father was a professional clown with Ringling Bros. Circus and his mother performed as an aerialist working high above the crowds. At 17, Lowell branched out on his own and started performing original material, often poking fun at his unusual upbringing and the variety of vaudeville and visual skills that surrounded him.

During the past two decades, Lowell has presented his unique brand of amusing mayhem to audiences in theaters, comedy clubs and on college campuses across the U.S., Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Mexico.

For his Athens shows, Lowell will be joined by guest magician Jade, whose style of magic blends the beauty, grace and exotic allure from her Chinese culture on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. In 1990, Jade took first place in the International Brotherhood of Magicians’ World Magic Competition, and she remains the sole woman to receive the coveted Gold Medal of Magic.

Tickets for The Chipper Experience – Where Comedy and Magic Collide are $39, with discounts for UGA students and groups of 10 or more. Tickets can be purchased online at pac.uga.edu or by calling the Performing Arts Center box office at 706/542-4400 or toll free at 888/289-8497.
